10th Annual Charity Golf Tournament
Report on the 10th Annual Charity Golf Tournament
The 10th Annual Val Turton Carl Osborne Foundation (VTCOF) Charity Golf Tournament was held on 2017 May 14 at the Petrotrin Pointe a Pierre Golf Course. Rain initially threatened to halt proceedings, with persistent light showers in the early morning. The rain finally cleared around 10:30 am and thereby allowed a start to the proceedings. A delicious breakfast plate was served while the draw was being done and commemorative polos and caps were being distributed to the players. Following the draw and a brief opening prayer and address, the shotgun start finally got underway at about 11:00 a.m.
This year the turnout for the tournament was negatively affected by the fact that the tournament was being held on Mother's Day. The Foundation was still fortunate to have a turnout of twenty-one (21) teams. Prizes were presented to the top 4 teams at the prize-giving ceremony that was held in the evening at the Sportsman’s Verandah. The results were as follows (Sponsor/Team/Score):
MASSY HOLDINGS LIMITED – N. Lutchmansingh/G. Viera - 45
SOUTHERN SALES -S. Hanooman/D. Rajkumar - 44
PHOENIX PARK - J. Singh/P. Singh - 44
TRINITY INDUSTRIES - N. Kalliecharan/A. Beharry - 42
Special prizes were also given to the top Ladies team (Amoy Chang Fong/Pauline Raynor) and the top Youth team (Yea Jee Lee/Zoe Correia).
A sumptuous meal was served and the open bar was very, very well patronized. A special Mothers Day token was given to every participant to take home to their Mother or Wife!
We are still in the process of collecting some of the sponsorship cheques and completing some of the payments. We anticipate that we will be in a position to do a full financial report by 2017 May 31. A modest surplus in the vicinity of $10K is anticipated.
My sincere and heartfelt thanks go out to all of our Directors and to all of the very many sponsors and other persons who assisted in making the tournament the success that it undoubtedly was in terms of the competition, the enjoyment and the financial returns - which are used to further the Foundation's major objective of providing bursaries to sportsmen and sportswomen to pursue tertiary education. Special thanks to Mr. Vinoo Mohip and Ms. Lucy Ottley, who gave yeoman service with all aspects of the organization and technical management of the tournament.
